EDSA was called highway 54 because from the start of it from Monumento up to the last point of it in Pasay it CONNECTED all the streets from caloocan,quezon city,san juan,mandaluyong,makati and pasay...all the streets that been connected by this highway are summed up to 54 streets thats why its called highway 54
